We strongly urge you to appoint several individuals with broad knowledge and awareness of health and health care disparities, barriers to care, and health outcomes experienced by individuals with diverse disabilities to the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee (NR) that will establish a comprehensive methodology and criteria for designation of Medically Underserved Populations (MUPS) and Health Professions Shortage Areas (HPSA).

EEOC Proposed ADAAA Regulations

For convenience and to aid review, this submission includes: (1) a table of contents, identifying the page number on which discussion of each identified subject begins; (2) a “bullet point” that summaries DREDF’s general position and recommendation as to each identified subject; (3) a more extensive discussion of each identified subject that includes citations to relevant authority; and (4) proposed revised regulatory language, where relevant.

American Council of the Blind and 3,000,000 Blind and Visually Impaired SSA Recipients Win Major Legal Victory

San Francisco, CA – Judge William Alsup of the US District Court, Northern District of California in San Francisco, today issued a judgment in favor of the American Council of the Blind (ACB) and two classes of 3,000,000 individuals with blindness and visual impairments. The suit challenged the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) failure to provide its critical benefits communications to recipients in alternative formats that would enable people with visual impairments to have equal access to SSA programs as required by federal disability civil rights laws.
